What is Earth Day?
Over the last 40 years, we have become more aware of our environment and our impact on it. The movement to bring publicity to environmental issues is known as Earth Day.
Earth day was first celebrated in 1970 when an environmental group decided to call their conference by the title. It has since grown into a day that is designated to celebrate our environment and raise awareness regarding environmental issues. It has become a much more publicized event as issues of pollution, global warming and the melting of ice caps have gained attention around the world.
For many people, Earth Day can be a confusing issue. Simply put, it always seems to be popping up. This is because there are actually three separate dates celebrated as Earth Day across the world. You just knew it couldn’t be simple.
The first two Earth Day celebrations are dependent on the tilt of the Earth. As the Earth circles the sun, it tilts on its access. Twice a year, the equator moves above and below the horizontal plain of the planet. The International Earth Day and date celebrated by man occurs one the day this exchange happens in the spring, on March 21st.
